Went and saw this yesterday, 7/3/07. The theater was PACKED. Hadn't seen a full theater like that in a loooooooooong while. But it was well worth it.

Being an '80s kid I grew up with the Transformers. I have to say that it was my favorite cartoon as a kid. Optimus aside, Jazz was always my favorite character. His Porsche 935 Turbo was just sweet. Ah those were good times.

Needless to say I was eagerly awaiting this movie. I've been following the development as much as I could, and was estactic when I heard Peter Cullen was reprising the voice of Optimus. I was also throughly pleased when I found out that Jazz was going to be in it. My wife knew (and had no objection) to waiting in line opening day.

So we watch the movie and I LOVED IT!! I think the critics that are giving it a bad rap are smoking something. rottentomatoes and azcentral are the only places I've read reviews that I agree with. Though I love the irony of the comments Tom Charity's review over on cnn.com is getting. I think it's great.

My one gripe is Jazz. WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?! I was sooooooooo peeved when Megatron kills him. I'm still a little peeved about it, but someone pointed out that it's a possible homage to Scatman Crothers (the original voice actor who passed away in 1986). If that is the case, then it is a little easier to accept, but still it chafes me a little.

Anyway, the movie is really good. It's a great movie in which Michael Bay does what he does best, action. It's plot is a little weak, but it's a perfect story for the Transformers. It's actually very fitting.

The deviation from the original vehicle and robot forms is something that I completely understand. So that didn't bother me that much.

Finally they added a good amout of humor and quotes. OMG I can't believe how many quotes from the original Transfomers was in there.
